Article in the Swedish magazine Arkitektur, issue 2 2005. In Sweden, many small municipalities are threatened by industrial decline and depopulation. In Germany, the problem has reached gigantic proportions, and the east part of the country stands before yet a dramatic phase when 1 million residential units stand empty. This has released a great activity around what is termed "shrinking cities". The article describes the phenomena and its consequences in Germany, and in relation to Sweden.
